Trump Publicly Supports Cannabis Legalization in Florida

Donald Trump has extended his public support for cannabis reform, this time taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, to endorse the upcoming legalization vote in Florida.

Last month, Trump, who has historically been generally opposed to cannabis liberalization, said during a press conference that he ‘agrees a lot more’ with cannabis legalization as it proliferates across the country.

The news, which marked a stark turnaround in rhetoric from Trump, sent US cannabis stocks rallying.

He also promised to make an announcement regarding Florida’s upcoming vote on legalization ‘soon’.

As promised, he has now announced his support for Amendment 3, which would see possession of up to three ounces of cannabis for adults over 21 legalized across the state.

“In Florida, like so many other States that have already given their approval, personal amounts of marijuana will be legalized for adults with Amendment 3,” the former president said in a post.

“Whether people like it or not, this will happen through the approval of the Voters, so it should be done correctly.”

Beyond legalization, he suggested that Florida should enact laws that prohibit the consumption of cannabis in public spaces.

“At the same time, someone should not be a criminal in Florida, when this is legal in so many other States. We do not need to ruin lives & waste Taxpayer Dollars arresting adults with personal amounts of it on them, and no one should grieve a loved one because they died from fentanyl laced marijuana.”

It comes as cannabis reform has become a more crucial issue for both the Republican and Democratic campaigns, with Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris picking up the torch from President Biden, who has taken numerous measures to support the rescheduling of cannabis.
